This Is Me

Hello and thank you for visiting my site. If you know me and have read my work in the past then you will know that I try not to get too serious about anything, except maybe a good prawn curry. And beer. I like a beer and a prawn curry so I don't really give too much thought to anything except beer and a good prawn curry. And conversations with a lady boy or two. Yes these are the things that matter most to me and maybe a few others, like writing a good story. But mainly it's beer, curry and conversations with lady boys... Thai preferably.

So I hope you enjoy some of what I do but if you don't, you can exercize your right of choice and exit the site. I shall then invoke my right to freedom of expression and you can voetsak (foot sack) back to where you came from... For those who stay, I must just say that I have been accused in the past of contradicting myself in my beliefs and in my principles through my work; this is an utter load of crap because firstly, I do not write to impress, I try to write in order to entertain and secondly... what principles? Enjoy.

This Is My Excuse

Since I can remember I have always wanted to be a writer. I have dreamed time and again of seeing my poetry or short stories, my novels (hmm... work in progress) and plays crafted and finished in my hand and printed on the paper of success. I have also in the past wanted the trappings of fame and fortune. Fast cars, film premieres, radio and television appearances and an abundance of gorgeous dates on my arm. Of course no one told me that in order to get any of these things I would have to A, be incredibly lucky and B, that I would actually have to work very very hard on my Ideas, scripts and other scribblings just to get a look in.

Anyone who knows me knows what I am like around work, so to say it has been a bit of an up hill battle with little... or in fact no results, would be just a tad of an understatement. None the less I have continued scraping away for the last couple of decades and one thing I have found is; that any work I have managed to complete seems to go a long way in enhancing my chances of receiving a splendidly presented, well written, professional rejection letter, of which I have hundreds. For you see, not one of the fuckers told me that 99.9% of all literary submissions are rejected almost immediately and of the 0.1% accepted, only 10% of those will actually be able to make some sort of living from their work.

Well the odds are stacked you'd agree and some would no doubt say they are stacked quite heavily against me in particular. Maybe you are right but as a statement of fact - disguised as nothing else but pure fact and stated here in packaged form, I am not a quitter and will not give up. Well when I say quitter I don't mean any of the times that I have thrown in the towel or given up through indolence, those were just times... that's all, just times.

So I haven't "made it" and I most probably won't but I'll tell you this much, I am not going to stop trying. I like the idea of limousines, 1st class airline seats. I like luxury hotels and palm beaches, expensive persons of the night... and beer. But you see, as a dreamer and fantasist poverty will always be my lot. However I do love the freedom and independence that poverty brings, a catch 22 that I have learned to live with... yet a 22 which one day may devide by two and become an 11... oh dear. And so even though I told you earlier that what really mattered to me was a good prawn curry, beer and conversational lady boys, I lied just a little bit. You see, the thing that matters to me most is the gabbling thing that I do, the story telling and the bullshit that so easily trips off my tongue, the stuff which I so arduously endure, in its transfer to the electronic page.

In closing; don't worry, I know in reality I won't be given all of those lovely perks I mentioned, so I decided a long time ago that I'll give them to myself in a world of fiction and fantasyland. And I'll do it as a writer who is learning how to finish what I start... because I can.

So then who's up for getting nice and wasted in my room at the Ritz, Ming Kai and Mong Gi are waiting and I could do with a massage...

Update
My blog is under the rather apt title of Boyce's Choice and I will endeavour to keep it updated as regularly as possible. It is slow though because as always I am using outdated technology having yet to take delivery of my new Sony Ball Tickler 550 laptop. It has six cylinders which are turbo-charged, it dispenses low frequency brianwaves and can mimic the hip movements of a Thai Lady Boy, speak soon.

My email address is unchanged at boitjie2000@yahoo.com
